Logging Truck Wreck Kills Two and Injures 19 in Arkansas

Posted on Jun 20, 2014

Two people were killed and 19 more were hurt Monday, June 2, when the tire on a logging truck blew, causing the truck to lose its load near a crew of road workers in Arkansas. The wreck happened near Clinton where crews were working on a bridge-widening project. According to Arkansas state police, the load on the logging truck shifted after a tire blew on the truck, causing the logs to tumble onto the roadway and into the work zone. There were up to 40 workers on site when the accident happened.

The work zone is on Arkansas State Highway 65.

This accident highlights concerns by the Federal Motor Carrier Safety Administration about the repair and maintenance of worn or damaged tires. Summer temperatures can also play a significant factor in tire blowouts.
