The Walmart truck driver involved in a fatal crash that also injured comedian Tracy Morgan was speeding more than 20 miles over the speed limit at the time of the collision, according to the National Transportation Safety Board. The freight truck was traveling at 65 miles per hour in a 45 mph zone at the time of the June 7 wreck on the New Jersey Turnpike, according to a NTSB report. The truck hit a limo van carrying Morgan and his entourage; Morgan remains hospitalized and another passenger was killed.
The driver, Kevin Roper, told police he had been awake for 24 hours at the time of the collision, according to reports. He was arrested and has pleaded not guilty to charges in the case.Electronic driver log information shows Roper was still within regulations, having driven just under 14 hours that day, the limit for commercial drivers.
