Three Oklahoma State Troopers Receive "Trooper of the Year" Awards

Three Highway Patrol Officers received Trooper of the Year Awards at the Department of Public Safety and Oklahoma Highway Patrol’s 46th annual awards ceremony on Thursday, March 27, 2014. Troopers Bobby Raines, Sean Mass and Tommy Allen received the honor for heroism, humanitarianism and valor.

Trooper Mass received the humanitarianism award for his conduct in an incident Aug. 7 involving a vehicle running off the roadway into water off State Highway 31 in Pittsburg County. Trooper Mass arrived at the scene and noticed a vehicle in the waterway near the shoreline that appeared to be sinking.

Mass and a bystander entered the water and made their way to the vehicle and driver, who had run his vehicle off the road in an apparent suicide attempt. Trooper Mass got the driver out of the vehicle and took the man to safety.

“Trooper Sean Mass displayed great courage and professionalism in saving the life of another. His quick actions, dedication to duty and citizenship reflect great credit upon himself, his troop and the Oklahoma Highway Patrol,” Trooper George Brown said.
